What is a cookie?

A 'cookie' is just a text file. The purpose it serves is to hold small items of information. What makes a cookie different from any other text file is that it's created by an internet page and is saved on a users' computer in a certain place, where it can be found again later. It is placed on your computer via your web browser (for example, Internet Explorer, or Netscape) and again read by your browser if a web page requests it. When you accept a cookie, the website does not gain access to your computer or any personal information stored on it. They can only store information that you type into forms, information about the pages you have visited and buttons or selections you have made on the website. Cookies can only be read by the server that created the cookie.

Why use cookies?

On this website, We place cookies on your computer when you select either of the check boxes ‘Remember my address & email’ and ‘Add/update this drug to my list’ on the repeat prescription form. The cookie contains your details allowing the form to be filled out automatically when you next request a repeat prescription online.

Why do I have to enable my cookies?

With every browser comes the option to 'turn on' or 'turn off' cookies. If cookies are turned off, a browser will not read or write them from or to your computer, respectively. In the case of this website, this means that repeat prescription forms must be filled out each time. Most browsers have cookies turned on (or 'enabled') as a default, but occasionally they are turned off or security settings are such that our cookie will not be saved. In these cases, you will need to enable cookies for this website in order to utilize the auto-form facility.

How do I enable cookies on my browser?

All browsers are set up in a slightly different way and require you to enable cookies in a certain way. We've included a brief guide to enabling cookies on the most popular commercial browsers, but if you are still experiencing difficulties, either consult your computer user manual, or call the helpline number included in the documentation supplied with your computer. If possible we suggest enabling cookies for this site, rather than all sites.

Which browser do I have?

You should have a button marked 'Help' at the top of your browser window, whichever type it is. If you click on this, you should find the name of the browser. To find out which version it is, click the 'about' option.
